I have over 5000 hours of experience so far in my 10 years of tutoring, helping hundreds of students into a large range schools in the UK. Having been to St. Paul's myself not too long ago (I left in 2012), I am very familiar with the admissions process and the standard required to gain a place at one of the top schools.

I have worked with students of all ages, from 7+ all the way to A levels. In terms of GCSEs and A Levels, I have taught several different exam boards including OCR, AQA and Edexcel. The majority of my experience is in the 11+ and 13+, especially in English, Maths and Reasoning, as well as interview technique.

Biography

I was born in London to an English father and an American mother. I spent most of my childhood in London and was fortunate enough to have had an excellent education, including 5 years at St. Paul's. For my A levels, I studied English, Maths, Religious Studies and Theatre Studies, scoring an A in every subject, as well as 11 A*s at GCSE level.

I started tutoring in my first year of University; I studied acting at Rose Bruford Drama School (accredited by the University of Manchester). After scoring a 2:1 in my degree, I moved back to London and continued tutoring part-time.

Approach to Tutoring

My approach is always based around the goals of the student, which usually involves working towards an exam. In general, I like to use past papers as I find that they give students exam experience, as well as quickly revealing gaps in the student's knowledge, which we can then address. It's also vitally important to cover the syllabus thoroughly and not rely on past papers exclusively. I also like to ask the student what topics they feel they are struggling with in school, so that we can work through these areas and give the student confidence.

Building a rapport with students and finding common interests with them is important to me, as I think it makes lessons more enjoyable for them, and also yields better results. I try to be as encouraging as possible with my students and stay as positive as possible throughout the process.

When not tutoring

When I am not tutoring, I'm either making music, walking my lovely poochon called Sunday or trying out a wide range of vegan food. I'm lucky enough to be able to schedule things around my tutoring so I am fairly flexible, but I mostly tutor on the weekends.
