Born and raised in Exeter, I attended Wellington School where I first discovered my love for literature and philosophy. Inspired to read further, I studied English and Creative Writing at A-Level, completing an additional writing course with the Arvon Foundation.

Whilst studying for my undergraduate degree, I began tutoring and quickly developed a passion for teaching. I also continued to write, having the good fortune to see my short stories and poetry published in numerous anthologies.

I graduated with a First-Class degree in English Literature before going on to study for my Master’s degree at University College London. After graduating from UCL I decided to focus on tutoring full time, and spent a wonderful couple of years developing broadening my pedagogical knowledge.

Inspired by my work with SEN, over the last few years I have been furthering my study of Psychology and I am currently training for my Certificate in Counselling.

I believe student engagement is absolutely crucial. Whether a pupil is falling behind in lessons or struggling to understand new material, their confidence can be affected making them feel alienated from the subject. My first priority is to demonstrate to students that no matter their experience they can always improve, adapt, and develop new ways to achieve that might be unique to them.

The more confident a student is, the more enthusiastic they become, and the more receptive they are to being challenged until they meet their full potential. Nothing is more satisfying than a previously disengaged pupil eager to try new methods and keep their grades improving. Once the willingness is there, we identify the areas that require the most attention and together devise a strategy to ensure a sense of control over their own success.

Outside of lessons I like to read, write, exercise and play guitar.
