I worked as a tutor for 3 years during my time at university. I began teaching through a volunteering role at Action Tutoring in 2020, where I taught English and Maths to disadvantaged students at 11+ level.

In 2022 I began tutoring for Tutors United, where I taught over one hundred hours of English and Maths to Year 4-6 pupils during my third year of university. Towards the end of my time at Tutors United, I was spotlighted as a star tutor due to the good feedback I'd received from parents and the number of hours I had taught.

In addition, I worked as a TEFL tutor in the summer of 2022 in Italy, where I taught students from the ages of 6-13 in a challenging new environment, gaining a TEFL qualification.

In 2024, I also privately tutored a student with SEN, teaching them English Language in preparation for resitting their GCSE exam.

Outside of tutoring experience, I have spent the past year working as an economist in government. Dealing with fast-paced and complex work has strengthened my analytical skills and application of economics, giving me a well-rounded viewpoint of economic theory which will provide useful further insight for any student, be that in GCSE or A-Level Economics.

Biography

After completing my A-levels (in Economics, Maths and English Literature) at Southend High School for Boys, I decided to pursue my passion for social issues and policy by reading Economics and Politics at the University of Bristol. Whilst studying, I worked as a volunteer tutor for Action Tutoring and a paid tutor for Tutors United. Immediately after graduating, I completed an internship in the fundraising unit at Macmillan Cancer Support for three months, before starting my current role as an assistant economist in the Home Office. I also worked another part-time job concurrently with my internship and role in the Home Office as an assistant coordinator at Serve Legal from July 2023-May 2024.

Approach to Tutoring

I enjoy getting to know my students over a course of lessons, and tailoring my teaching style to what I understand about the way they like to learn. I generally create lesson plans that are very interactive and allow the chance for discussion, where my students are encouraged to seek out answers themselves with me acting as a guide. I love helping students to understand theoretical concepts through mnemonics that are personal to them, making subject matter easy to remember. My job as an assistant economist in the Home Office means that I am skilled in distilling economic and mathematical concepts down to their simplest terms, where I have lots of experience in communicating economics to a wide range of audiences with different knowledge levels.

When not tutoring

Currently I work as an assistant economist in the Home Office full-time, and plan to stay in this role for the long-term.

My working hours are very flexible and I'm able to take flexi-time off, so I am well equipped to take on clients during the week, as well as at weekends, both online and in person, as I am situated centrally in West London.

Outside of work, I spend most of my time trying out cooking new recipes and looking after my allotment. I also love to read, in particular comic books, watch new films at the cinema and spend time with friends. In particular, I enjoy playing board games and video games when I get the time!
